San Diego Cityscape Full Moon Photo by Denisevasquez V. — National Geographic Your Shot: I moved to San Diego a little over a year ago and in that time, I've realized there is so much I've yet to learn about my beautiful city. Like many cities, there is so much going on, so the best way I like to explore, is to know what is happening on any given day. San Diego has a beautiful skyline & I wanted to try to capture it during a full moon, so I did some research. Scouting locations in advance, knowing the time & place of the event helped make taking in this view even more spectacular.

California is the heart of the surfboard building industry & the neoprene wetsuit was invented here as well. Surfing culture in California can be found anywhere along the coastline where you not only watch surfers catching waves alone or in crews, you can even watch the International Surf Fest & US Open of Surfing.

At the rate these beautiful animals are being poached & killed, they are nearing extinction. We must continue educating people, bringing awareness, and finding ways to protect them & all life on this planet before it's too late.

Baby Rhino Photo by Denisevasquez V. — National Geographic Your Shot: The coolest birthday present I received was going on a Safari Caravan tour here in San Diego. Being a part of wildlife, while they roamed the land all around us, was quite an experience. From feeding giraffes and a Rhino, to seeing a Mother Rhino get protective of her baby & ready to charge, It was exciting & educational. Prior to this, I never knew Rhino horns are made of Keratin which is the same type of protein in our hair and fingernails. Do the poachers know that? Or is it all about power?

Happy Flower Photo by Denisevasquez V. — National Geographic Your Shot: I love being at one with nature, it is truly my happy place. I've been at home recovering from an achilles tendon injury that happened back in June, so the closest I have been with nature, is with the flowers that I have at home. Flowers always make me happy so this is one of my feel good moments at home up close.
