The Andean Bear

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2017

The Andean Bear got their name because they live in the Andes. They are also known as the Spectacled bears because the light markings around the eyes makes it look like it's wearing spectacles. The spectacled bears are diurnal, elusive, peaceful, shy & avoid contact with humans, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this one chilling out in the open at The San Diego Zoo on a hot summer day! Andean bears are accustomed to tropical climate so they don't hibernate and are active all year long. They use their big, beautiful, long, sharp front  claws to climb & get food. Their biggest threats come from humans, so maybe they're nor shy at all, maybe they stay away from humans for survival!

The Silver Leaf Langur & Bright Orange Baby

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2017

The Silver Leaf Langur are born bright orange & don't turn silver until they are 3-5 months old. I captured this special moment using my Canon EOS 80D & Canon Zoom EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 L IS USM Lens.

Hanging With The Orangutans

The Orangutans at the San Diego Zoo are something to experience! I love everything about the Orangutans! They are so fascinating to watch, just as interesting as people watching! Orangutans are amongst the most intelligent Primates and like humans are born with the ability to reason & think...Orangutan means "The people of the forest" & today I learned why! I used my Canon EOS 80D & Canon Zoom EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 L IS USM Lens.

Aye Chihuahua!

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2017

While traveling on the road, from Ventura California to Hollywood, we stopped to get gas in Oxnard & pulled up beside this car. The Chihuahua was staring into space, looking all sad as if it had just lost its favorite ball. Chihuahuas are temperamental little dogs depending on their family genetics. They're loyal, make good travel companions & they have personality! Growing up we had a beautiful black and white Chihuahua named "Bambi" because of he long deer like legs! She was sweet, loving, friendly & mellow, so I guess her family had good genes!

A California Scrub Jay

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2017

Look who joined us for breakfast this morning! A California Scrub Jay! As they usually forage in groups, it was not alone! While I was enjoying my freshly brewed cup of coffee & cereal with blueberries & strawberries, they were feeding on insects, fruits & vegetables growing in the backyard garden. Recent studies have shown in the animal Kingdom, they are amongst the most intelligent. Like humans & dolphins, they plan ahead, strategize & remember locations.

Life's A Beach
And Then You Go To One!

The Beach At The Ventura Pier

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2017

The beach located at the Ventura Pier is the main beach in Ventura, California. I love walking along the Pier where you can see fishermen, locals, tourists and beautiful views out to the sea! The view from the beach and the pier looks out over Pierpoint Bay toward the Channel Islands.

Take Your Child To Work On The Street

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2017

A small crowd gathered around this family on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. When I saw this mother playing the violin, the little boy munching on snacks, and the little girl singing along, it took me back to my childhood. I was raised by a single mother who quite often would have to take me to work. My mom was usually in school or working hard to provide for my sister & I, and like this family, we made the most of every moment we shared. I used my Canon EOS 80D & my Canon Zoom EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 L IS Lens to capture this moment.

Throwback Thursday: That Time I Held A Gator

Photo: Randy Martinez

As I'm approaching my birthday on June 29th, I sit here reflecting on some great journeys over the years! I love celebrating life by traveling somewhere & doing something new! Back in 2015, my man and I ventured to New Orleans for my birthday. We've been there more than once as the thought of moving there had crossed our minds. One of the new things we did during this trip was go on a different swamp tour. I even got to hold a little gator!

Playing With My New Canon Zoom EF 70-300mm Lens

Selfie Moment Photo: Denise Vasquez

I'm soooo happy! I'm sure you gathered that by my big smile in my selfie photo here! My birthday is on June 29th so I treated myself to some new items for my Canon EOS 80D! I've always used Canon products! Go team Canon! I've found their products to be reliable, easy to use and great quality! I love taking a lot of photos, and I love the ease, the speed and the quality of photos with Canon cameras. Over the years I was capturing moments with my Canon Powershots, I still have & love my Canon SX50HS, but I finally upgraded to getting a Canon EOS 80D, and I absolutely LOVE it!!! I purchased a kit so my camera came with a bag, two batteries, battery charger and two lenses EFS 18-55 mm macro 0.85/2.8 ft lens & 55-250mm macro 0.85/2.8 ft lens. I've been having fun shooting with these two lenses & they've certainly helped me become more familiar with taking photographs with my Canon EOS 80D camera. I started feeling like I needed to upgrade my lenses in order to capture the quality of photos I wanted, so I went to my favorite camera store in Los Angeles, Samy's Camera & picked up a new backpack for all of my gear when hiking or traveling and a new lens! I got a Canon Zoom EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 L IS USM Lens so I can take my photography to a professional level! You can see me holding the lens in the photo here. I prefer shooting with my camera in hand, and it is heavier than I am accustomed too, but I'll get used to it! I already have a great tripod, but I'll probably end up getting a monopod as well! I'm always learning everything I can about doing photography, especially with my Canon gear as technology is constantly changing. We've come a long way from shooting photos with film! In the meantime I'll keep reading books, watching videos, taking classes and shooting photographs every day! So be sure to follow me online to see all of the great moments I'm capturing!

The Little Bird On The Walk Of Fame

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2017

Walked around Hollywood today with my Canon EOS 80D as I tried out my new Canon Zoom EF 70-300 mm 1:4-5.6 L IS USM Lens. While walking along the Walk of Fame this little bird landed on the wall near me. As I stood still bearing witness to the little things in life, I gave thanks for another beautiful moment!

I walked around Hollywood today with my Canon EOS 80D as I tried out my new Canon Zoom EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 L IS USM Lens. While walking along the Walk Of Fame, I stumbled upon another great message by WRDSMTH. I smiled as I challenged myself & photographed this from across the street during 84 degree weather, rush hour & high traffic! Having  a great camera, Zoom Lens, beautiful day, lots of patience & a steady hand helped me capture this moment.

Puerto Rico Iguanas

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2014

I love visiting my family in Puerto Rico! The beautiful island hosts mountains, turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, tropical rain forest, cliffs, caves, delicious food, music and an abundance of iguanas! While visiting the El Faro Lighthouse in Cabo Rojo, taking in the magnificent views, I was greeted by a community of Iguanas. The iguana population has grown so much, people have resorted to taking them in as pets & chefs have even thrown around the idea of putting them on their menus!
